A formless form

I was flying to Fort Lauderdale, and immediately asked the man beside me for the window seat when boarding our flight.

About ten minutes into our flight, I quickly realized something peculiar, yet oddly familiar…

Every part of the land we were flying over was in perfect rectangular shapes. I questioned weather it was just a matter of that particular spot, or not. As we continued on our journey, my eyes told me differently.

Hence, epiphany number one.

I told a friend about this thought… and they were quick to laugh at my assumptions. That is how builders construct the land. It obviously all looks the same, no? I beg to differ, I suppose. I don’t think that builders have the talent to ensure all of this green earth fits together in perfect rectangular shapes. Maybe I am being naive. God put so much time into the layout of this earth!

Once we arrived at our destination, we departed the plane and stayed a couple nights at a family friends’ home.

Fast forward a few days.

I woke up early Wednesday morning to watch the sunrise on the shore, with a cup of brew of course.. It rose slow, and gently.. never demanding. Somehow, I felt as though this sunset was far more graceful than a Michigan sunset. Maybe the ocean played a role in that.

However, beautiful is an understatement. This sunrise made me question if I even knew what beauty meant. The waves crashed onto the sand violently…contrasting so marvelously with the sky. It was one of the most real things I have ever experienced. I think God really showed me what beauty was that morning, and  I gained all the respect in the world for him as an artist. No music, no one beside me, and no thoughts. My mind was just still, and focused. I was exactly where God wanted me in that moment. It’s moments like those that define my existence.

After the sunset sappiness, the rest of the trip was put into perspective for me. I laughed easier and I took deeper breaths.

I pay more attention to detail now.

Like the make up of flowers, and the individuality of rocks.

Silly things like that made me think about art in a new, refreshing way.

It really is the simple things.

Malleable

A tree told me to stand tall and proud

To know my roots and drink plenty of the living water

To be content with my natural beauty

To enjoy the view

oh my I am going absolutely insane.

If things were easy to find, they wouldn’t be worth finding.

Says my best friend.
